A Change Will Do Me Good?

Tonight I cut and colored my hair. I cut it short. I colored it dark.

Our camera is at Mike's parents' house and even if it wasn't I'm not sure I'm ready to share. I like it. I do. But when I look in the mirror I don't recognize myself. I'm also worried about my trek through the lobby of my building tomorrow because I work in a law building and (some) lawyers don't gawk subtly.

Hopefully I'll have found my tougher skin by the time our camera returns home. (It's got to be around here somewhere. Something tells me it's collecting dust in my closet, along with my size 6 jeans.)

When I mentioned the other day how I didn't want to get too comfortable in life, I didn't realize I'd take myself so seriously.

Why couldn't I have picked up knitting or perhaps decided a cooking class would shake things up. No, instead I decide to begin reading Pride & Prejudice (Jane? YOU'RE KIND OF A SNOOZE FEST) and dye my hair a very darkish-brownish-reddish color.

Mike's not home yet. I think I should get good and drunk so as to blur his initial reaction in my mind.

Darker is good! And I'm sure it looks AWESOME!

I scared myself every time I went to the bathroom after I went dark. But then you get used to it. And now I just stare at my lovely brown locks for hours on end.

omg - can't wait to see! i bow down. i can't actually remember the last time i had a different hair cut. scariest thing: i look exactly today as i did when i was 2. (did i just admit that out loud?)

i can picture it in my head and i know it looks awesome on you!

but i also remember that weird feeling when you look in the mirror and you somehow forgot that you dyed your hair and it's *SO* dark...

I did this once. I had long, blonde hair. After my husband lost his job unexpectedly, I decided it would be the perfect time to cut off all my hair (shorter than chin length) and dye it reddish-brown. I liked it. He did not. Hope Mike's reaction was better! Can't wait to see!

I'm sure the hair looks great. It's good to try something new. Hang in there on Pride and Prejudice. It is a really good book. (The movie is also very good.)

I didn't like my first foray into shorter hair so now I am considering cutting it even shorter. Not sure how I think that is a good idea but it's the one that I am probably going with.

    5. Make Kyle's baby blanket and book of letters.
    6. Take at least one yoga class a month.
    7. Make a neighborhood friend.
    8. Organize the upstairs work space.
    9. Go to the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum and eat lunch at Cafe Modern.
    10. Write and submit a piece on parenting.
    11. PR in every distance (5K, 10K, half-marathon).
    12. Get a third tattoo.
    13. Throw a baby shower.
    14. Take a trip with Mike, to celebrate our fifth anniversary.
    15. See a therapist.
    16. Update my SS card and passport.
    17. Make a general doctor's appointment.
    18. Go horseback riding.
    19. Decide what to do with my race bibs.
    20. Make these envelopes for thank you cards.
    21. Create and fill up a magical thinking jar.
    22. Paint some mason jars for our kitchen.
    23. Do something with the space above our couch.
    24. Create a nostalgia wall on the wall by our stairs.
    25. Sneak in cans of champagne to a chick flick with friends.
    26. Replace our kitchen counters.
    27. Have a garage sale and donate half the money to our local food bank.
    28. Create an address wreath for our front door.
    29. Paint our front door.
    30. Run at least 250 miles throughout the year.
    31. Find a charity that speaks to me, that I can become a voice for.
    32. Say something out loud every day.
    33. Go back to College Station.
    34. Pose for a boudoir session.
    35. Wear pretty new under things on New Year's Day.
    36. Enjoy Boston cream pie cupcakes.
    37. Host a more organized run at this year's Blathering.
