I started writing this really self-indulgent post about intelligence and experience, and how I'm very insecure about the things I know and it keeps me from really making this site what I'd like it to be, and then I circled the topic back around to motherhood and how it royally sucks to be schooled by other moms who think they have it all figured out while I sit back and watch my kid put the laptop cord in his mouth while thinking, If the laptop isn't on, is that really as dangerous as I think it is? There was supposed to be this articulate point woven throughout about being who you are, regardless, and I'm sure I would have channeled a Disney movie's life lesson at some point. But, as you can imagine, the whole thing was coming across very whiny and woe-is-me-ish and just ridiculous, too, and I might have devoted an entire paragraph to a professor in college who told me I didn't belong in his Arthurian Literature class because I used a semi-colon incorrectly (those bastards can be tricky). So, yeah, I'm deleting that entire thing (you're welcome) and am instead bringing you pictures of Kyle's first time in his high chair!
Probably just as self-indulgent and annoying, but look how cute!
We registered for this high chair way back in 2008 when we were preparing for Kyle's arrival, and I'm glad we did. Finding the money for this need right now would have been hard. Oh, also, I assembled this myself. I made that Allen wrench my bitch.
Kyle was a big fan of the high chair, and I was a big fan of keeping his carrots and peas contained in one space. Before, we'd been using this chair-with-a-tray contraption or, more often than not, my lap to feed him, and you can imagine how much extra laundry that produced. Also, the extra cost to stain guard the new couch? WORTH IT.
So, you know, time to turn to my default broken-record setting:
MY BOY IS GETTING SO BIG. MAKE THE GROWING STOP!
His favorite foods of the moment, by the way, are: sweet potatoes with corn or bananas with blueberries. All about the combo foods, apparently. Just wait until he tries french fries with ranch.

Oh, Sarah won the Amazon gift card from this post. Sarah, send me an email at shelikespurple AT gmail DOT com. The prize is all yours if you claim it by Sunday at midnight!

Sometimes with a post like that all you need to do is write it. Not publish it. And then there's a cute baby in a high chair and really, that's all you need.

French fries with ranch? Amazing. Also, have you tried pretzels with French Onion Dip? (My favorite is Helluva Good brand.)

What a cutie! Highchairs are incredibly handy, not just for feeding but for plunking wee ones in if you need your hands free. Throw some measuring cups or spoons on the tray, and some cheerios, and you've got 30 minutes to use both hands.

I prefer french fries with mayo. Mmmmm... Although I am a fan of ranch on pretty much anything else.

Um, hello, Kyle? I think you've grown since I saw you LAST WEEKEND. Please stop. Thank you.
Also, I let Jackson put unplugged hair dryer cords in his mouth and he's fine. Just sayin'.

I can't believe how big he's getting!
My niece ONLY ate orange foods when she was that age - sweet potatoes, carrots, etc. And then she started to, well, turn a little orangey-yellow. I noticed it but never said anything to my SIL because what do I know? So then the doctor was like "FEED HER SOME GREEN VEGETABLES! NO MORE ORANGE-ONLY DIET!"
It makes me laugh every time I think about our little oompa loompa! :)

Or ANYTHING with ranch...pizza, fries, chips, pita bread....and Subway sandwiches. Yum.

Aw, what a big guy in his high chair! Dean started out in a booster seat and I remember what a big deal it was when he finally moved to a high chair. It's great for trapping him, uh, I mean keeping him safe, when you have to remove things from the oven or run to the bathroom!
Combo foods rock. At that age, Dean was nutso about blueberries and pears and peas and spinach.

Well, I let my daughter chew on the cord when it is plugged in, and she's my second, so that puts you like three notches up from me...or something? I think at some point you just stop caring what others think. Or maybe you don't stop caring, but you just don't have the energy to care.

He is so cute in the chair, and we registered for a high chair like this too, and we've already gotten it. It's a little big to store, but it'll be so worth it when we don't have to buy it ourselves.

oh man he looks so BIG in that chair, like he should be doing homework and t-ball practice.

That little Kyle is adorable! I don't go throwing around the word adorable with just any baby either. You guys should consider commercials...and no, I'm not saying that just to be nice, I'm for real Jennie!
