This weekend, we took Kyle to his first pumpkin patch.
We also took him to the park, for the first time as a family.
He waved at us for the first time, as well, after weeks of annoyingly waving at him like loons while chanting, "Hi, Kyle! Hiya Kyle! Can you wave, buddy?"
At Target, we took him out of his car seat and let him ride in the cart like a big boy for the first time. He was captivated by all the cheap, lovely things. That's my boy.
To round out this weekend of firsts, I turned my back for a quick second Saturday night, and he face-planted off the couch. Taking my heart along for the plunge. He was fine just moments later, albeit fine with a small bruise on his head and a bloody lip, but no injuries some hugs and a bedtime story didn't fix. We're still hoping he's fine and that his vomit episode 24-hours later was merely coincidental. Go ahead and think good thoughts for our little man, just in case.
No one prepares you for the constant blood pressure spikes parenthood brings. Along with stretch marks and really unflattering clothes, I wish pregnancy had given me nerves of steel. They'd come in handy on a daily basis.
I need to find a sense of calm amidst the storm of motherhood. Sometimes I wonder what on earth to do other than shooting Xanax straight into my eyeballs. Yoga? Reading more often? Sleep more? (Yeah right.) Then the irony of all ironies hits me: the one who causes the heart-stopping moments, gives me the greatest peace I could ever imagine.
Sorry about the fall, Ky. I can't promise it won't ever happen again, but, buds, I'll snuggle you after each and every one. If you'll let me.
More pictures from the park, the pumpkin patch and, randomly, Vegas.

Oh, he's a cutie!

How fun! Isn't it so cool when you can take them places and they LIKE it?! Much better than, "Wah wah wah I am hungry/tired let's go home nowwwwww."
Everyone is so right - they DO get more fun every day.

Too cute! Glad he is feeling okay after his fall! :)

Oh, the falls... wouldn't you think they could SEE how far away the floor is from the couch and, you know, not jump and give us a heart attack? Ah well. Good thing babies are so cute.

Awww, how nerve-wracking. I'm sure he's fine but I'm thinking good thoughts for you guys just in case.

My best friends baby fell OFF the change table...she turned her head for one second to grab his sleeper. She felt HORRIBLE. Kids will be kids though, and a few bumps only make em tougher I think. :) Glad to hear he is okay.
Love the fall colors! We missed out on fall since winter decided to blow through and give all the trees a stroke. :(

I would say we had four to six weeks of constant divebombing attempts by my son when he was about Kyle's age. He tried to lunge headfirst off of our couch, our bed, my lap, a chair, the changing table, EVERYTHING. Good times. I am not sure what happened, but he is less likely to lunge suddenly off of high things now. Hopefully Kyle gets through this stage quickly.
(And yes, in case you were wondering, the baby did successfully dive headfirst off the couch at least once.)

He's so adorable! I can't believe how big he's getting!
So, um, I took my niece and the nephew to the park over a year ago and Skyler fell off some jungle gymy thing and had a bump on her forehead the size of a golf ball.
Thankfully, my SIL trusts me and knows it was an accident.
The point of my story is that she told me, if they have to hit their heads, better on their foreheads. The worst is the back of the head (concussions) and the temples.
Glad he's OK!

Glad he's okay. Still thinking good thoughts for him (and you).
It must have been the weekend for pumpkin patches--we went and so did everybody else in town who had a baby (or so it seemed).

Oh my gosh, Jennie. He is SO CUTE!!!! Glad to hear you both survived that first couch dive. It's heart-stopping, I know. I think being a mom thickens your skin anyway, but being a mom to BOYS? Toughens you by the SECOND.

I adore all of these photos of Kyle, but that second to last one? Oh man, it melts my little heart.
Glad he's doing well after his fall. Babies are resilient little humans, but it's still scary/sad when they do hurt themselves.

Such a sweetie! I love baby boys in overalls. Oh, your first face-plant! Ours was at my in-laws' house at Christmas last year. My MIL had Dean on the bed and he flopped right off onto the hardwood floor. He had an enormous goose-egg on his forehead. We actually took him to the ER because of the knot, but he was fine, albiet pissed off.
You'll hit your stride with the motherhood thing. You're doing great just by loving him as much as you do. We all struggle no matter how old our kids are. We are, after all, redefining ourselves constantly. Hang in there, mama!

My goodness, this little guy is just a mover and a shaker. But he also has a face that will melt hearts and butter so that makes up for all of his stunts.

Your boy is SO cute, I can hardly believe it.
Good luck with the blood pressure spikes, am sure this little adventurer will cause a few more :)
