I don't know who I think I am, arranging a meet-up at BlogHer, like I'm some sort of social director, but it's also not the worst idea I've ever had. Here's why: In the last year that I've been baring my soul (and my crazy) on the Internet, I've met ONE blogger in person (Hi Bethany!), and I know ONE other blogger outside of the blogosphere (Hi Kristie who is an accountant and never reads this site anymore!). That makes for quite a few strangers at BlogHer this July. And, well, on the one hand that's just the coolest situation I've ever put myself in: the opportunity to arrive somewhere with two face-to-face friends and to leave with a hell of a lot more. But on the other hand I'm ridiculously freaked out. (What if no-one likes my shoes?) I thought it would be nice to have a cocktail hour to break the ice with one another and afford ourselves the opportunity to hug the women we've been investing in for months and possibly wrap ourselves around the legs of other women we find so well-dressed and well-spoken and downright cool, we just can't believe we get to breathe the same bar air as them.
I talked with Emily a few months ago about my plans to put something together—something like a Blogging Icebreaker Cocktail Party—and she became my co-host. (Oh lord, I think I'm a host, too? Why am I so lame?)
My question—to you lovely women—is: would you be interested in coming to The Cantina in San Francisco on Thursday, July 17 for some ice-breaking cocktails before the big BlogHer kick-off the next day? And, if you're from San Francisco, is there a better nearby place we should consider?
If you'd like (please!) share this info with your readers who may be attending the conference, and we can create this great big, lovely meet-up that'll shock the pants off my husband who is convinced I'll be drinking alone in the bar that night which, come on, wouldn't be the first time.
Also, if you are interested, include your e-mail when you comment. I have big Evite plans as the day draws closer. I bet you never would have guessed, but I can whip up quite the kick-ass Evite.
Okay then, get back to your Friday afternoon/evening.
Oh, and if I haven't said it before, I just can't wait to meet you.
